Purpose of role:
Develop and manage activities and processes to provide assurance to the customer that the Design will meet the desired design performance as the design matures.
Develop the detailed processes required to assess the risk of achieving the Mission System Specification, monitor the implementation of Design Rules and Design Policies and report status.
Implement the processes throughout the contract phases, whilst liaising with the Type 26 team to maximise lessons learned and read across.
A working knowledge of all facets of the Ship build lifecycle.
A good knowledge of warship engineering across Platform, Combat and Transverse domains.
Understanding of the Naval Ships Engineering processes relevant to the ship design, construction, commissioning and delivery as they apply to design.
A rigorous approach to quality, data accuracy, audit and record retention.

The ability to pay close attention to detail to produce outputs to a high degree of accuracy
The ability to assimilate and manage large quantities of data and communicate this effectively with senior management.
An understanding of LCM and Design Assurance
An understanding of Contract Requirements and Acceptance.
An understanding of the ship design, build and commissioning process.
Ideally degree qualified in a technology, engineering or science related discipline.
Working towards the requirements for registration As Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
Tasks and Activities:
Develop, implement and manage the overarching Design Assurance Process by:
Developing a strategy to provide assurance to the customer that desired performance is being met by the evolving design
Developing and managing a set of Major System Reviews and activities to provide assurance against MSS, Design rules and Design policies;
Regular customer engagement, relationship management and reporting at all levels
Developing and agreeing an Audit programme to support quarterly report generation against Design Rule allocation and embodiment.
Identifying and resolving any issues;
Generating and reporting metrics;
Feed in to outcome to support key programme decision points.
Develop and facilitate agreement of Certificates of Design
Manage the continual assessment of WSR against agreed Risk criteria:
Influence risk decisions and provisions based on assessment;
Report metrics for quarterly assessment;
Manage generation and maintenance of compliance statements for high Risk WSRs.
Facilitate close out of issues raised through Design Assurance activities.
Support the Design governance activities.
A detailed Design Assurance Strategy and Process captured in the System Review Plan and Engineering Management Plan
Agreed Audit plan for Design rules and policies;
Generation of metrics;
Regular senior reporting.
