Working as an integral part of the Assembly Integration and Test whose objective is to produce world leading satellite payloads. The Test Team Lead is responsible for the Electrical Operations Team to guarantee the delivery of all test phases, role is to ensure that the Test Operators are focused so that test activities are completed on the communications module. The Test Team Lead will drive continuous improvements and the reduction on non-quality in the area of electrical and RF test operations.


  • Ownership of their cleanroom bay ensuring only permitted people can enter the area and to ensure all operators are using the correct PPE for the task
  • The Test Team leader is involved in the definition / review of the standard bay layout
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping are maintained by everyone working in the area including regular 5S audits
  • Monitor teams discipline when working on assigned tasks. Ensure they are always working efficiently and challenge the team to perform to the expected standard / quality. Raise any issue of discipline and escalate if no resolution
  • Management of all cleanroom operational processes owned by the payload test team for all payload test phases
  • Work with the Lead Engineers to agree the 'daily contract' of work to be carried out and highlight any difficulties based on skill, resource, tools, and means. Identify any opportunities that may not have been considered in the plan to improve the efficiency
  • Support the RF Lead in forward planning and looking at what tests are planned in the near term to ensure that paperwork, test aids and skills are available
  • Responsible for the Management of the test aids kit once delivered to the bay throughout the test phase and return to stores
  • Management of the interface with Mechanical team at shop floor level for operational tasks
  • Ensure that the order of priorities is clearly understood and tasks are given to the team in this priority order. Escalate immediately when a priority task cannot be carried out
  • Monitor the team as they carry out the tasks ensuring they are completed and in line with the set duration. Any outside the duration should be understood and fed back to the Lead Engineer for lessons learnt
  • The Test Team Lead must deliver the 'daily contract' agreed with the Lead Engineer in the morning and should ensure issues are resolved locally or escalated following AIT process
  • Act as a focal point to provide reference material through the configuration control database e.g. Sprint / Windchill
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Operations Log contents and reporting to the Lead Engineer
  • Carry out a standard handover to the next team leader to ensure key messages are understood with a follow up email
  • Liaise with RF Systems teams when required to notify them of status and gain approval
  • Provide sub-contractor performance feedback to cleanroom manager to ensure correct skills are maintained and performance issues are dealt with
  • Maintaining training modules and provide cleanroom inductions and training to new starters
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out to the correct level of quality and any issues are tackled with the team
  • Ensure all documentation is completed before the shift handover
  • Ensure at the end of a test phase all documentation is complete
  • On projects, the test team leader has the responsibility of taking first action following anomaly or deviation i.e. the test team leader is responsible for logging into Pandora and carry out first level diagnosis


  • Electrical and/ or RF Engineering skills
  • Experience in Electrical Test environment
  • HND or Degree in Electrical / Electronic discipline, Electrical Test Engineering or RF & Communications
  • Management and/ or Team leading experience, with leadership abilities
  • Aerospace, Communications, Automated Test Equipment development
  • Strong Electrical/RF test measurement experience
  • Utilisation of automated test systems; including ATE Test Hardware & Software development
  • Conflict management - dealing with local team issues
  • Understand technical documents, drawings, procedures, etc
  • Work place health and safety awareness
  • Flexibility to different working patterns, including ability to work off-site (UK and abroad)
  • Cleanroom experience
  • Electrical Test System Design / validation / experience
  • Previous experience of telecoms payload test
