Job Purpose

The role of the Criticality Assessor is to act as a Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for Criticality Assessments. The Criticality Assessor imparts subject matter expertise to ensure and to provide subject matter expertise to ensure the Criticality Safety of the client operations through the production and peer review of Criticality Safety of the client operations through the production and peer review of Criticality Safety Assessments produced by the client or on behalf of client by the supply chain.

Job Context

The purpose of the Client Safety Case Team is to Deliver, Implement, Adopt and Maintain fit for purpose Safety Cases to support the client operations. The role of Criticality Assessor is to fulfil the Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer requirements for Criticality Safety Assessments. The Criticality Assessor ensures the technical integrity of Safety Assessments produced by the client or on behalf of the client by upholding the standards of the client Safety Case Framework (Clients Safety Case Manual and clients Safety Assessment Handbook) and through assurance to the clients Safety Case governance function with respect to the validity of Criticality Assessments. Key internal stakeholder relationships are with the Design Engineering Manager, Safety Case Owners (service demander) Nuclear Safety Assurance and the clients safety case governance function. Key external stakeholders include the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), Environment Agency (EA) and supply chain engagement (as service providers to the client). The Criticality Assessor will be required to use or critically evaluate outputs from specialist software packages e.g. MONK analysis.

Experience Required

Minimum 5 years of directly relevant experience as a Criticality Safety Assessor or Nuclear Safety Assessor. Essential

Competent Criticality Assessor and Peer Reviewer. Essential

Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case. Essential

Thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework and Regulator expectations in respect of criticality submissions. Desirable

Has experience of each stage of the Safety Case lifecycle and experience of Safety Cases from other Licensees. Desirable

Strong analytical thinking/problem solving skills. Desirable

Ability to remain calm and professional during an emergency situation. Desirable

Practical application of specialist Criticality Assessment tools and software packages. Essential

Qualifications

Degree qualified in Science or Engineering discipline or equivalent Essential
