We are seeking a Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join our Clients central Engineering group ideally to be based in Swindon, however they may be able to offer some flexibility on location.

The Client provides engineering and technical support to thermal generation assets based in the UK across a wide range of process control systems and technologies. This position offers the opportunity to join a leading organisation in the power sector, in a role that will provide technical challenge and allow you to influence the selection of C&I technology employed across their fleet and shape the solutions they engineer as their sector moves toward a low/zero carbon power generation.

Your role will consist of, but will be restricted to the following:
Job Description
You will use your knowledge of C&I to help us measure and evaluate process control performance across their fleet.
Identify opportunities to improve their operational capability and flexibility which are key operational goals for their generation assets.

The role involves a mix of desktop activities and site engagement activities to provide support and guidance to local engineering teams during installation, commissioning and optimisation of process control installations.

You will work collaboratively within the engineering department, supporting their business development colleagues and site engineers to jointly progress and implement technical plant improvements and enable integration of new assets to their portfolio.
You will enhance their operational flexibility, commercial performance and importantly levels of process safety


Candidate Specification
The candidate will have a background in power plant operation and maintenance coupled with experience of project development activities within the power sector. Although experience gained in any equivalent process industry sector is equally valid.
A degree / higher qualification in an appropriate Engineering discipline and a demonstrable record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field
Professional membership of a relevant institution, preferably Chartered (or working towards becoming a Chartered) Engineer is essential.
The candidate will have a thorough understanding of C+I equipment and its successful application to power plant control coupled with sound technical knowledge of power plant operation and maintenance principles
You will have practical experience troubleshooting and developing hardware and software solutions on a range of control system platforms, DCS systems and PLC equipment. Systems utilised within the fleet include ABB 800xA, Siemens T3000, Emerson Ovation, Foxboro IA, Valmet DNA, Rockwell Automation and GE platforms among others
Experience of critically reviewing and appraising technical documentation / specifications
Knowledge of the legal framework and the regulatory regime for managing process control applications safely within UK process industry
Good understanding of functional safety and practical experience in its implementation
An understanding of cybersecurity regulations and standards
The candidate will have excellent communication and report writing skills / effective time management skills
An ability to maintain high levels of drive and energy, setting personally challenging targets is required.
