Communications Advisor; Based in Portsmouth; 10-month contract; £21.00 ph PAYE;
We are looking to recruit a Communications Advisor to be based at our client's site in Portsmouth
The role will require the post holder to work as part of the communications team to ensure a proactive, consistent and coordinated approach is adopted for all internal and external activity and communications collateral, campaigns, initiatives and publications. The post holder will be responsible for updating documentation, creative input and the production of materials ranging from publications in print and digital formats, collateral for campaigns and corporate initiatives. They will be responsible for updating a variety of communication channels and delivering activity to support enhanced employee and customer stakeholder engagement (internal and external). The role holder will promote and protect the reputation of the business through all outputs. The external role will include but is not exclusive to maintenance of the business messaging and key issues briefs, media forward plan, internet presence, social media channels, digital publications and external communication interfaces
Duties
Support the Communications Manager in the development and delivery of effective and integrated communications plans
Customer relationship management to build effective and robust communications networks
Implementation of the communications strategy to provide effective communication of relevant corporate information and company strategy
Development of plans for specific activity to meet specified communications objectives
Promotion and guidance on the consistent use of the company brands
Continual evaluation of the effectiveness of communications channels and activities, working with a broad range of stakeholders
Update communications and engagement plans and management information to maintain accuracy and effectively report on the progress of activities and campaigns
Develop creative ideas for internal and external engagement activities
Present complex messages in a simple way across a range of mediums/ communications channels
Ensure consistency of message and use editing and proofreading skills to adapt writing to fit a variety of channels and audience segments
Contribute to a range of effective public relations activities using appropriate communications channels to build positive relationships
Support a safe working environment and promote SHE (safety, health and environment) initiatives
Knowledge required
Understanding of effective communications practices and channels
A level of education within a communications related discipline or considerable work experience in an appropriate role
Applies communications expertise which includes developing and delivering communication plans
The communication disciplines are: internal, external and Team Portsmouth, each Advisor
specialises in one discipline but good knowledge required of all disciplines in order to ensure all activities fit within the broader communications strategy and opportunities are maximised
Experience of providing guidance to colleagues to ensure compliance with communications processes and procedures
Comprehensive understanding of all customer activities
Skills and Experience required
Previous experience within a communication's advisory role
Good understanding of customers (product/service knowledge for communication materials, i.e. press releases to effectively communicate to target audiences and key stakeholder groups)
Expected to hold a good level of business acumen and confidently advise on communication activities as outlined and supported by the Communication Strategy
Communicating with employees how effectively the business is at delivering against objectives
Identify opportunities to work with Business Development, Marketing and Creative Media to tell our story to current and prospective customers
Interpersonal skills
Good communication and diplomacy skills
Supporting reputation mgmt. activities
Enable business stakeholders to contribute to business objectives by acting as a conduit for enhancement of business objectives
Able to influence people at different levels. In terms of persuading senior stakeholders this generally sits with the Manager
Building strong network and influencing stakeholders
Defence sector knowledge an advantage
