Job Description:

A leading client in the Rail Industry is recruiting for a Commercial Manager.

The day-to-day duties

Recruiting for a Commercial Manager to work within the Rail team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will generally lead the relationship with either Arriva Rail North or Trans-Pennine Express and can be expected to be deployed flexibly as part of the wider Contract Management Team to meet emerging risks and business needs on such things as:

  • Briefing the DfT and Ministers, the parent organisation and Members, on matters arising as well as contracted or programmed franchise delivery
  • Supporting the Rail Franchising Programme
  • Contractual negotiations and variations
  • Commercial support to the wider Contract Management Team, Departmental and Rail Executive programmes e.g. capital investment schemes

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

As a Commercial Manager, you will have:

  • A Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • A Professional qualification, chartered status or equivalent experience
  • Substantial knowledge of the transport industry with deep specialist knowledge in rail franchise service area
  • The ability to understand and communicate strategic objectives to the rail industry
  • Experience in developing and evaluating business cases for major commercial changes
  • Be a subject matter expert in programme and project management
  • Experience of leading a team in a senior level role
  • Proven financial management skills and commercial acumen
  • Programme management experience, and significant project management experience across a range of highly-complex projects
