Civil Engineers required for Leeds / Milton Keynes.

The role contributes to the delivery of planned and arising construction and maintenance work undertaken by the Canal & River Trust (Trust) and contracted suppliers.

The civil engineer will assess problems, identify, design and specify engineering solutions for delivery by the contractors and may offer those contractors support during the construction phase.

The engineer will be encouraged to provide innovative solutions which conserve and enhance the heritage and environment of the waterway network for visitors to enjoy, supporting the Trust's aims to improve safety and increase the number of people using the inland waterways network.

The post will be suitable for a graduate engineer or a technician engineer with an HNC and some relevant experience.

Responsibilities Commensurate with experience:

Produce or check engineering calculations -permanent and temporary works
Engineering drawings
Specifications for work carried out by Trust construction teams
Environmental and Heritage appraisals
Construction, Design and Management (CDM) documentation
Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards.

Qualifications & Skills
Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering with relevant experience in one or more of: geotechnical, bridges, water or highways engineering

Good standard of written and verbal communication, report writing and ability to present technical data and presentations to non-technical audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Proficient in the use of a personal computer and business applications software including MS Office, MS Excel
Valid driving licence appropriate for vehicle to be driven.

Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and experience of undertaking Designer CDM role.
Awareness and experience of designing repairs appropriate for heritage structures.
Awareness of environmental issues and assessment. Demonstrable ability in providing innovative solutions. Ability to work under pressure using effective time management skills to prioritise extensive task lists. Experience of SAP and GIS or other mapping systems.
Structural analysis software: eg TEDDS
