Chemical Operations Compliance Officer - Permanent - Preston

Role purpose:

Plant based role - working as part of a team and interacting with subject matter experts to undertake permissioning and enact control and supervision of nuclear operations to ensure the operations are in compliance with the agreed safety envelope and remain safe at all times.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
* Delivering effective and efficient control and supervision of operations
* Ensuring operations are in compliance within the authorised envelope (including: site licence conditions, UK regulations, environmental permitry and facility safety case)
* Review and authorisation of all work packages (routine or non-routine) destined for areas under their responsibility
* Liaison with internal & external stakeholders in regards to supporting the business delivering effectively
* Undertaking assurance activities - audits, process confirmations and verification activities
* Ensuring safe and compliant management of the nuclear inventory for areas under their responsibility
* Ensuring the statutory maintenance activities of assets is being delivered as per schedule.

Essential Skills:
* Degree qualified - Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of stated qualifications
* Evidence of self-motivation with demonstrable levels of drive, energy and resilience
* Ability to demonstrate conservative decision making, even in pressure situations
* Ability to communicate key information both verbal and written with customers and stakeholders
* Experience within laboratory environments working to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

Desirable Skills:
* Ability to demonstrate supervisory experience for operations undertaken within a high hazard industry
* A thorough awareness of nuclear, conventional safety and security requirements applicable to their area(s) of responsibility
* Experience of application of safe systems of work
* NEBOSH General Certificate
* Experience in incident and emergency response.

The ideal background qualification for a good candidate would be chemistry related degree with experience in that field who is looking for a career shift into compliance/internal regulatory positions. Full training, mentoring and coaching to support the candidate in achieving the knowledge and experience criteria shall be provided.
