Purpose of role:
As a member of the Control & Instrumentation/Hull Vibration Monitoring Equipment design team, undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to the Engineering Manager (C&I/HVME), ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.
Key Technical Skills:
Possesses knowledge and experience of design and integration of Control & Instrumentation (C&I).
Has knowledge and experience of design testing and acceptance events
Possesses knowledge and experience of design and integration of Naval Hull Vibration Monitoring Equipment (HVME).
Has knowledge of technical contract strategy and is capable of interpreting technical documentation.

3 Years' experience in a controls related industry
Demonstrable working knowledge of multiple phases of the Engineering Lifecycle, primarily design, manufacture & test, alongside a good understanding of adjacent phases and through-life engineering issues
Tasks and Activities:
Support developing, maintaining and modifying C&I/HVME functional interfaces in assigned areas, in response to technical developments and operational requirements.
Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, to support integration of C&I and HVME to support the programme
Prepare interface specifications and develop designs in line with customer requirements ensuring all standards are maintained and regulation complied with.
Participate proactively in, investigations into C&I or HVME operational problems or developments, to develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of the C&I/HVME team.
Support C&I and HVME contact with customers and suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
Liaise with Supply Chain and the Support organisation to minimise C&I/HVME through-life costs and achieve affordability targets
Support as required, co-ordination of HAZID and safety case reports for system/equipment in assigned areas.
Continue improving knowledge in relevant technical areas, developing skills to provide effective C&I and HVME design support
Provide guidance to less experienced team members to support their effective working and development.
Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and liaise with C&I/HVME Engineering Manager for approval
Take ownership of assigned tasks, delegating allocated resource as required and agreed with C&I/HVME Engineering Manager.
Degree qualified in an engineering discipline
Meets the requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional Body
System calculations, diagrams and drawings supporting design and assessment tasks for assigned areas of C&I and HVME.
Design and Assessment Studies for assigned areas of C&I and HVME.
Technical Reports and Specifications for assigned areas of C&I and HVME.
Presentation material for assigned areas to support C&I and HVME presentations at design reviews.
Key Functional Skills:
Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Appreciates that there are technical reviews to ensure product viability.
Appreciates and can articulate the need to ensure that products are acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.
Has had some exposure to regulatory and statutory requirements of the product - e.g. Lloyd Rules - and understands potential liabilities.
Recognises the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.
Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business. Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.
