BUSINESS ANALYST

Position Description

The role of a Business Analyst is to carry out requirements management, process development and business change activities, across a number of concurrent small-medium projects or a single project. The BA provides early stage and full lifecycle consultancy to senior business and project stakeholders in order to help shape projects, establish feasibility and see them through to delivery. This includes identification of project stakeholders, supporting definition of project scope and objectives and developing benefits to support the business case. As part of this process, the BA captures and manages business, functional and non-functional requirements and may defines the as-is and to-be processes with multiple stakeholders at different levels. Driving business change is also a critical part of the role including management of working groups and ownership and delivery of the business change plan.

Core Duties

The role holder will:

  • Perform BA duties on small / medium sized projects as the sole BA, and/or support workpackages on a larger project, which may involve working with a Lead Business Analyst.
  • Support the Project Manager in identifying project stakeholders, defining the project scope and its business justification.
  • Collect, analyse and gain approval for critical success factors and business requirements.
  • Plan and lead workshops with stakeholders at all levels for requirements and business process capture and documentation.
  • Develop and gain approval for system requirements (functional and non-functional).
  • Be responsible for ensuring change control and change management procedures are followed within the project team as they relate to requirements
  • Quality assure design documentation to assure traceability to requirements.
  • Support development teams, third party suppliers and test communities by acting as the voice of the customer on projects.
  • Develop business change plans (including communications and training approaches and schedules) * Support the Project Manager through production of estimates for BA tasks, and through providing status reports for BA activities.
  • Support continuous improvement through feedback on the existing processes.

Functional Knowledge

The role holder will:

  • Have experience of gathering and documenting requirements for technical projects, including leading workshops for requirements and business process capture
  • Have demonstrable experience of working within a structured and well-governed IT Project environment
  • Have demonstrable evidence of analysing and documenting complex business processes
  • Have demonstrable evidence of driving business change
  • End to end experience of the project lifecycle
  • Have experience of delivering work streams across multiple simultaneous projects
  • Have proven experience interacting directly with end users and technical project
  • Have some technical training eg BCS Diploma, Lean six sigma
  • Experience of Stage Gate delivery processes such as PRINCE2
  • Experience of non-PRINCE 2 delivery methodologies e.g. agile.

The role holder will:

  • Have understanding of the customer needs and current challenges at a detailed level to support requirements capture and appropriate challenge back
  • Have good understanding of the structure, organization, processes and culture of the project, to support the implementation of appropriate project management approaches
  • Have understanding of how other areas of the business co-ordinate and interact
  • Have wider business acumen that goes beyond immediate the immediate team
