Brine Process Engineer - Middlewich (Salt Operation)

It's an exciting time to join Tata Chemicals Europe…….

Who are we? Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) in the UK's sole producer of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, as well as the market leading producer of salt.
We are also one of Europe's leading producers of these and other related producers. Our parent company Tata Chemical Limited is part of the global Tata group, which represents the largest private employer in the UK, and employs more than 700,000 worldwide. In 2010,
TCE acquired British Salt, the UK's leading manufacturer of pure dried vacuum salt products. From our plant in Middlewich, Cheshire we manufacture a broad range of salt products to suit the needs of a wide range of applications.

There are exciting times ahead for us as we embark on major investment across all our manufacturing sites in Cheshire to grow the business and deliver reliable high quality products into increasingly diverse markets.

To help deliver this exciting vision we are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Middlewich site, the home of British Salt.

What will you be doing?

Delivery of process improvement projects for the Salt manufacturing team, assisting the Brinefield Development Manager, Production Manager and other stakeholders to deliver production and efficiency targets, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, health and environment standards.
The identification, investigation and resolution of operational issues and the efficient extraction and delivery of brine from our boreholes to the factory.
Assist in developing, configuring and optimizing brine processes from inception long term planning through to start-up and commissioning.
Compilation of concept studies and pre-FEED work.
Assess processes and key asset performance such as brine caverns, cross country infrastructure and purification plant, taking measurements and interpreting data.
Review and control of pumped brine back to the surface and on to the purification plant where calcium, magnesium and other impurities are removed before beginning the brine evaporation process.
Assist in the compilation, programme development/monitoring/control for new and existing solution mining boreholes and all associated equipment including underground cross country pipework and control systems.
Support process engineering requirements of other projects within the factory and wider business as required.

What kind of person are we looking for?
Ideally you will hold a degree in Chemical or Process Engineering (or similar), complemented by at least 1-2 years industrial experience, gained within continuous process plant operations. An appreciation or interest in geo mechanics would be an advantage.
Someone who can demonstrate a strong desire to learn new technical skills and professional competencies associated with solution mining and brine purification.
Someone who is not looking for a solely office based role. Your ongoing success will require a deep understanding of the site geography, issues and opportunities. This can only be nurtured through time spent out on site amongst our operators and process.
You will have an approachable, can-do attitude and desire to be involved in very long-term planning and strategic asset development. What can you expect in return? This is a unique and niche opportunity within our business, to work as part of the wider site team, who are passionate about what they do.

Our people have always been at the centre of the company's success and in return for their hard work and commitment, we offer a generous benefits package including: 37 days holidays per year, inclusive of Bank Holidays, an additional paid day off each year to volunteer for a good cause in the local community, an excellent contributory Pension scheme, Life insurance, Healthcare and a range of other optional benefit schemes all within a flexible work environment.

We are happy to speak to applicants about a flexible approach to working, whether that be in relation to their core working hours or working on a part time basis, in order to secure the right person who will remain committed to this role on a long term basis.
