Exciting Opportunity for a Destinations and Attractions Manager. Based Northwich Long term contract position.


Our client one of the UKs largest charities, that maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the countrys third largest collection of protected historic buildings preserving them for future generations. They are currently looking for an Attractions Manager at Anderton Boat Lift for an initial 9-month contract starting as soon as possible.

Job Purpose:
Responsible for the strategic development and management of a range of existing and potential destinations and visitor attraction sites within the region.
Responsible for ensuring destinations and attraction sites enhance the Trusts reputation, operate safely and deliver excellent visitor satisfaction through quality curation, interpretation, programming and participation opportunities.
Responsible for growing visitor numbers, maximising the use of volunteers, cost control, and driving revenue.
Responsible for 2-4 existing destinations or attraction sites.
Responsible for developing 2-4 new locations into visitor destinations.
Line management of site-based colleagues with overall responsibility for seasonal staff and volunteers. Responsible for annual expenditure budget of £1.5m
Responsible for annual income budget of £1m.

Key Accountabilities:
Responsible for the development of a regional plan to enhance existing and develop new destinations and attraction sites.
Working with colleagues to mobilise internal and external resources for the development of destinations and attraction sites.
Responsible for ensuring exceptional visitor experience at each destination and site.
Ensuring a programme of engaging and educational activity that fits with the Trusts objectives and campaigns is developed and delivered for each location.
Ensuring opportunities are maximised for recruiting and deploying volunteers to help deliver the Trusts objectives.

Responsible for developing and delivering a strategy to promote and market the regions destinations and attractions, ensuring such activity is embedded within the strategies and development plans of external partners and strategic bodies.

Ensuring the development of marketing and promotional material (hard copy and digital).
Line management of site-based staff who are responsible for delivering excellent visitor experience and value for money for the Trust, in a safe environment.
Responsible for the financial performance of destinations and attraction sites. Developing business plans, forecasting, monitoring and reporting. Business plans should seek to grow and enhance commercial activities in a sustainable, innovative, sensitive manner by improving delivery efficiency, expenditure control, exploring new opportunities, increasing the use of volunteers and growing visitor numbers.
Ensuring destinations and attraction sites are operated in compliance with all relevant legislation and meet the standards for external accreditation where applicable.
Ensure that the standards and procedures that are required for emergency, safety, operational and financial functions at each site are fully implemented.


Degree in a tourism or leisure based subject, or demonstrable appropriate experience.
Customer service qualification or comparable experience that demonstrates an emphasis on providing quality customer service or visitor experience.
Extensive experience in the management of attraction sites, ideally with a heritage element, including IT requirements, cash handling, retail and food experience.
Experience of developing commercial opportunities.
Experience of developing strategic and business plans.
Experience of developing successful marketing campaigns and materials. Knowledge of safety management and appropriate statutory frameworks.
Proven experience in budget management.
Strong interpersonal and people management skills, a team player used to working collaboratively with partners, staff and volunteers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to solve problems and implement solutions in an innovative and creative way.
Valid driving license.
