Avionics & Mission Systems (AMS) Systems Engineer

 

The TF-X Programme was launched in December 2010 for the acquisition of a domestically developed aircraft to fulfil the Turkish Air Force’s requirements for combat aircraft beyond 2020.  It is a National Prestige Program for a fifth-generation fighter.

New recruits are offered permanent employment contracts to join BAE Systems Turkey for the duration of the programme.

 

Turkish Aerospace are the Prime Contractor on the project and BAE Systems is acting as a Foreign Collaborative Company (FCC).  They are now three years into the programme, leading to completion of the Preliminary Design Phase. 

 

With the project focusing on the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) phase of design and development of the fifth-generation fighter there are numerous opportunities for those interested in the challenges faced in the early lifecycle stages of a programme and interested in an international role.  This, combined with the positive development to be gained from working in a collaborative international environment, is expected to equip individuals with a career fulfilling and personally rewarding experience.

The Avionics & Mission Systems (AMS) Integrated Product Team (IPT) is responsible for developing the avionics and sensor systems of TF-X Air Vehicle to meet avionic and mission performance requirements.

Activities focus on Systems Engineering & Integration, Mission Management, Radar & EW Systems, EO Systems, Communication, Navigation, Cockpit, Armaments Control and Integrated Modular Avionics.

As an Engineer in the AMS IPT, you will provide expertise in one or more of the areas listed above.

Typical activities include:

  • System Requirement Definition: Working within Systems Engineering to prepare requirement set for Avionic & Mission System
  • System Design: Working with Subsystem teams to prepare requirement sets for AMS Sub-Systems
  • Equipment Technical Specification(s): Preparation of Equipment Technical Specification for AMS Avionic Equipment, in conjunction with mainly Turkish suppliers
  • Sub-System Functional Definition, in support of the above
  • Sub-System Performance Analysis, in support of the above
  • Installation Requirement Definition.  Working with Suppliers and Design Installation teams to establish installation requirements for Cockpit Avionics, including physical and electrical interfaces

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Requirements Analysis
  • System Design / Sub-System Design
  • Avionic Equipment Engineering (including specialist areas such as RF, EO, IMA)

Candidates will be able to apply their knowledge and proven ability in these areas with the dual objectives of maturing the Avionics and Mission Systems design through the preliminary design phase and assisting in the development of Turkish Aerospace indigenous capability through the transfer of knowledge and experience to the TF-X team.  The roles also incorporate responsibility for ensuring that specialist activities in the above areas are integrated to ensure optimum design solutions are developed, so the ability to work across engineering disciplines is highly valued.

Proven Ability / Key Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrable expertise and aerospace industry proven ability in one or more of the above avionics / mission systems areas
  • Proven ability in early engineering lifecycle phases
  • Proven ability of complex system design integration on an air platform
  • Depending on the specific role, knowledge and skills in SysML

Desirable

  • Proven ability in using and managing data in industry standard Product Data Management tools (e.g., PLM)
  • Proven ability in use of industry standard Requirement Management tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Proven ability across full engineering lifecycle phases
  • Project Management skills (Schedule development and management, Risk Management)
  • Turkish Language skills

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the project involved all candidates will be required to undertake a full UK MOD Security Clearance (SC level) before starting. If the applicant is already SC cleared this will be transferred to the clients UK headquarters for the full duration of the project.
