Saturday 31st of October sees another of Kieran Farrell’s fighters on the big stage again as Amy Timlin takes on Carly Skelly for the vacant Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight title on the huge Usyk vs Chisora card.
The fight had originally been scheduled for October 2nd on one of Kieran’s own planned cards, but the card was unable to go ahead, opening up a huge opportunity to collaborate with Eddie Hearn’s world-famous Matchroom promotions.
The fight has been scheduled multiple times since lockdown and Kieran explained how it ended up on Sky Sports Box Office:
“We were originally going to put the fight on one of my shows behind closed doors, but with the pandemic and everything, it proved to be too much of a risk. I passed the management of Amy over to Dave Coldwell, who has a great relationship with Eddie Hearn and he offered the fight to Eddie and he didn’t really need to sell it, as it’s two unbeaten girls fighting for the commonwealth title. On the undercard of a Pay Per View like this, it’s a really fitting fight”
Eddie Hearn himself couldn’t contain his excitement between the two undefeated prospects when speaking to Matchroom:
“We’ve seen some amazing domestic fights recently in women’s boxing and this is another cracker. Two unbeaten fighters gunning for a World Title, the winner here will put themselves in contention for just that in 2021”
20-year-old Timlin has a 4-0 record since turning professional last year and has a slight advantage in terms of experience over her opponent, with Skelly having a 3-0 record after also switching to the pro ranks in 2019. The Kieran Farrell trained fighter is ready to take this chance with both hands and feels more than prepared:
“I’m buzzing for this. I’ve been training throughout lockdown and I’m ready to go. This fight will push me on; it’s all about learning. The pressure is on her, Carly will come out all guns blazing, but we’ve got a steady game plan. I can’t wait for the first bell; this platform is huge”
Kieran arranged sparring with truly world-class opposition in this camp for Timlin, as the 20-year-old tested herself against fellow Morson ambassador Natasha Jonas. This will undoubtedly only stand the young fighter in good stead ahead of the biggest night of her career:
“We needed that, obviously Tasha is a very strong southpaw and is world class. Through my relationship with Joe Gallagher, I text him and he told us to come over and get the rounds in and Tasha gave a lot of great advice to Amy. She’s sparred magnificently and is peaking at the right time”
Finally, Farrell explained what fans can expect from both fighters and gave his thoughts on what Skelly has to offer:
“As much as it is a massive opportunity for me to get my first domestic champion, Carly Skelly is going to try and do all she can to upset the odds. She’s got nothing to lose, she’s going to come in there and throw bombs and as long as Amy boxes to her game plan, she will beat her. Amy’s got a massive future ahead of her.”
