Visible distancing on the London Underground

As the UK's leading rail recruiter Morson have been embedded in the rail industry for many years. But during that time never has the role of our rail workers been as vital as they are now.

Our rail teams across the UK are playing a key part in keeping our country’s rail infrastructure moving. From London to Inverness, our essential rail workers are continuing to mobilise each night, planning and delivering railway maintenance and refurbishment works which are critical to keep our railways operational, hauling food, PPE, fuel and key workers to their destinations.

Never has 2 metres been such an important measurement and, naturally, it’s difficult to maintain this physical distance whilst on-site. To encourage the correct behaviours and keep our workers within safe distances, we have added the 2-metre signage to the high visibility vests of our essential maintenance teams working on the London Underground.

The new hi-vis not only has a distancing reminder on the back, but also pledges our continuing support to the NHS. The rainbow placed on the front of the vests serves as a reminder as to why these works are so essential and visibly shows our appreciation for the critical work performed by our heroic health care workers.

The updated PPE has already paid dividends with distancing rules effectively observed on-site during safety briefings and consequent rail maintenance works.

With the added threat of COVID-19 it is more important than ever that we take the steps to ensure that our teams work safe and go home safe every working day.

Gareth Morris,  group director of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance said:

It is not human nature to maintain social distances. We naturally enjoy meeting, socialising with others, working in teams and feeling part of a group.

To counter this natural, human behaviour to congregate we require clear signage in the workplace to serve as a constant reminder to maintain a social distance of at least 2 metres, this is particularly difficult on site environments.

To encourage the correct behaviour on site we have added the 2 metre signage to the high-visibility vests of our essential maintenance teams working for London Underground, as a constant reminder.

We are committed to ensuring that our teams work safe and go home safe evreyday and never before has 2 metres been such an important measurement.
