5 LinkedIn Profile Updates to Make Today

Jessica Tabinor Career Advice

hello sign

It shouldn’t come as any surprise to know that LinkedIn is a great tool to help you find your next role. You can search for roles, learn more about companies worldwide and build professional relationships. But what do you need to do to stand out from the crowd and ensure your LinkedIn profile reflects the best version of you?

Here are 5 LinkedIn profile updates to make today.

Imagery matters

You might not think that your profile photo is of great importance but first impressions count! If the first interaction you have with a company or recruiter is via LinkedIn, make sure your profile picture gives off a great first impression.

Refine your summary

Your summary is your first opportunity to sell yourself to whoever has landed on your profile. To ensure you show yourself in the best light you should include any achievements and career aspirations you may have. If these aren’t up to date – this is your reminder to update them now!

Add supporting information

Did you know that you can upload supporting me

dia and documents to your LinkedIn? You can add documents such as presentations, graphics, whitepapers and images to support your job experience. In our opinion, pictures can speak a thousand words so if you have any examples of your work you should add them here. It will help to make your past job experience stand out by providing the reader with real-life examples.

Check you’re all up-to-date

Regularly doing a quick scan of the whole of your profile to check it’s all up-to-date is good practice.

Your LinkedIn profile is your online CV so if you take on new things, learn new skills or your role changes you should update it along with your CV to ensure they accurately reflect each other.

TOP TIP | Here’s a few things that people often forget to update:

  • Education
  • Certifications
  • Projects
  • Awards
  • Courses
  • Publications
  • Languages
  • Any charity work or volunteering

Review your contacts and groups

Take some time to review your contacts. Having too many contacts on your profile can crowd your newsfeed and mean that you don’t see as many posts from the people you want to catch up with. On the other hand, LinkedIn is all about building relationships so if there’s a colleague you haven’t added yet, it may be time to reach out with a message.

The same goes for groups, reflect on which groups you are a member of and check if they’re still relevant. There could be new groups that you can join to broaden your network and open up new opportunities!

These quick-fix LinkedIn updates could make all the difference when it comes to getting the most out of the network. Let us know on Twitter if you think of anymore!
