  • Anthony Crolla previews a huge 2019 for the gym

  •  Gym benefits from expansion in the new year

  • Exclusive in-camp footage

Prior to the announcement of his Lomachenko fight later this year, we caught up with Anthony Crolla at a packed Gallagher’s gym last week and coinciding with a busy start to 2019 for the Bolton based gym has been a brand new refurbishment of the training centre with a larger environment for the fighters to now train in and a range of new equipment coming in. Anthony gave his thoughts on the new look to his familiar surroundings:

“The gym looks great with the new bags and equipment. It’s always nice coming into a new workplace, it makes you want to work that little better. Listen, whether we train at David Lloyd gym, Total Fitness gym or wherever it may be, it doesn’t matter to me you’ve got to do your graft!”

Alongside ‘Million Dollar’ at the gym were those closest to him throughout his most recent camps with the Smith brothers, Sam Hyde and Callum Johnson all helping each other prepare for a busy year ahead. Even though Anthony’s eyes will now be fixated on Lomachenko, he is still an integral part of the camps some of his team mates are currently going through:

“Boxing is classed as an individual sport but there is very much a team spirit here and we’re always pushing each other. There’s Liam Smith, Tasha Jonas and Paul Butler all fighting on 30th of March so they’re a little bit ahead of us where they are in camp. Callum Johnson is on in a few weeks so I’ve been doing quite a bit with him”

He continued:

“On the 30th of March, all the gym will be there supporting Liam, Tasha and Butler. Even with CJ in New York, they’ll be a few of us going to support him and that’s what’s great about this gym everyone’s out supporting one another”

With the fight of his life looming, dreams of what accolades and riches may follow are within touching distance but as with each fight, the former WBA champion ensured that he won’t get ahead of himself:

“You’ve got to take it fight by fight. I know I’m in the latter part of my career, the back nine. I will take it one fight at a time. I’m still loving training, I still feel like I’m improving. Next time will be for a World Title, so we’ll see how things go. You’ve always got to have that plan of where you want to be at the end of the year but you can’t look past your opponent”

Ahead of this landmark event on the boxing calendar, Morson will be following Anthony Crolla during his training camp so stay tuned for further content!
