A Stroke of Lukaku

The Premier League season officially got underway last Friday night at the Emirates as three-time Premier League title-winners Arsenal hosted much-much-more-recently-former Premier League title-winners Leicester City. Far from a dull and cagey affair, we started the season with a seven-goal thriller that was great watching for neutrals, Arsenal supporters and those Fantasy Premier League players who had picked and captained one Jamie Vardy. His brace still wasn’t enough to give his side all three points or silence those divided Gunners fans – many of which are still breathing down the neck of Arsene Wenger as he begins yet another contract extension in North London.

Elsewhere, it was business as usual for both Manchester clubs, picking up fairly routine wins over West Ham and Brighton. It was anything but routine at Selhurst Park, however, where Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town started their campaign with an emphatic 3-0 away win against Crystal Palace to find themselves top of the table.

In our Manchester head office and our official league, it was all about Romelu Lukaku. Manchester United’s new £75million toy netted two goals in his debut in red, and those savvy enough to captain the former Everton man were blessed with a great start and 26 points. Well done to The Dream Team’s Jack Clark for topping the league this week, and to management accountant Neal Peach and client services director Steve Seddon for keeping the Morson head office pace up in 2nd and joint 7th respectively.

Commiserations to Daniel Ryan and his Chelsea96 team. A partnership of Harry Kane and Gabriel Fernando de Jesus up front yielded just 3 points between them, leaving Daniel rock bottom and feeling much the same as you might when 3-0 down at home to Burnley at half time.
