Manchester Construction Projects

Rebekah Valero-Lee Building, Construction and Infrastructure

Manchester, the largest and fastest growing regional capital, famous for generating ideas and great business success stories was said to have a construction pipeline said to be worth £114billion in 2015. This thriving construction culture is very much alive in 2017 and it’s not about to slow down just yet.

Redevelopment and rail

Manchester’s redevelopment is non-stop with construction workers in high demand as a £75million hospital will be built next to the existing MRI (Manchester Royal Infirmary). Not only that but Manchester’s reputation for innovation also gets a welcome boost with a £60million Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre set to be constructed.

Then there’s the  HS2 project, the planned high-speed railway linking Leeds and Manchester (and London with Birmingham), comprised of two phases with a proposed completion date of 2033. The project is expected to create another 25,000 construction jobs and demands a higher skill set compared to other rail delivery schemes with jobs like Project Engineers and Infrastructure Maintenance Engineers on offer.

Regeneration for the future

Let’s not forget the endless regeneration schemes, Chapel Street in Salford city centre for one. A new hotel, multi-storey carpark and office building are already complete but the rest is due for completion in 2028, with the total costing being £650million and offering roles like Project Coordinators . Next is the 20 acre neighbourhood called the NOMA Masterplan, where you can live, work, create and innovate – all part of Manchester’s vibrancy.

Back in 2011, the UK government confirmed that the Nugen Project site was suitable for a nuclear power station. With a value of £14billion and a start date of 2018, this nuclear power station in Cumbria, slightly afield from Manchester, will have many roles on offer.
