Last Thursday (2 June) a team of Morson International employees took part in the Railway Children’s annual rugby tournament in Warwickshire.
A total of 14 teams competed and after battling through the early stages of the competition Morson International reached the final against Ernst and Young. Morson International dug deep and played a quick paced team game which earnt them victory. Our triumphant team were rewarded with an impressive trophy, sure to take pride of place in the Morson boardroom.
Peter Jackson (client services manager) said “The event was extremely well organised from start to finish by Katie Ferrier (Network Rail) & Katie Mason (Railway Children) and the team. It was a privilege to be invited to play and support a cause as worthy as Railway Children and the amount raised was a fantastic achievement. We sincerely look forward to returning again next year to defend our trophy.”
The competition and evening celebrations (sponsored by VolkerRail and ABC Electrification respectively) raised over £70,000 for Railway Children. The money raised will support the Railway Children’s latest initiatives such as SCT (Safeguarding Children on Transport). 100,000 children under the age of 16 run away every year and many of them will end up at stations. Railway Children work with rail companies, British Transport Police and the DfT to provide training programmes for people who work at stations to enable them to help those children and keep them safe.
