Ready for a change in career? Whether you’re looking to spend more time with your family or are simply seeking out a new challenge, swapping army life for a role in commercial aerospace is a popular choice.

However, a career change can be a daunting prospect. To give you an idea of how the move could transform your life, avionics technician Dan explains how progressing from the army to commercial aerospace has put him on track for the future.

Social benefits

Often a prime motivator for those looking to put their army days behind them is to realise a whole host of social benefits and this is something a role within the commercial aerospace industry can offer. Namely, having the freedom to choose where in the world you’re based. This choice can be key to improving relationships with family and friends.

If you’re currently spending several months a year away from home, the distance can often put a strain on family life. Having a permanent base not only makes it easier to keep in contact with loved ones, but can also help you plan for the future.

Taking the next step

So, do these newfound freedoms sound like something you’d be interested in? If so, then it’s probably time to start thinking about taking the next step in your career.

If you have the opportunity to attend a recruitment event near you, even if it’s not specifically targeted at what you’re looking for, you might find that you come across a role that sparks your interest. Here at Morson, our aerospace and defence recruitment professionals are divided into five specialist recruitment teams to cater for a number of disciplines within aerospace and aviation. By having a chat with one of our team members, you might find that there’s already a commercial aerospace role available that matches your current skill set.
