On November 18th Jonge Veranderaars (JV) – the Dutch equivalent of Young Rail Professionals (YRP), approached the EU parliament with a proposal of a new stance on innovating rail travel in Europe. YRP ambassadors were invited to join them to present the UK rail engineers of tomorrow.

Matthew Leavis, Group Training Manager at Morson Vital Training (MVT) is an ambassador for YRP. As a YRP ambassador, Matthew visits schools, colleges and national events to promote the rail industry as a future career prospect.

More recently, Matthew has become a founding member for YRP North West which involves working with other ambassadors to set strategic goals and outlines for how the YRP North West will promote its vision in 2015.

Matthew commented: “To stand in front of members of the European Parliament with representatives from other countries such as France, Germany, USA and the Netherlands was a great experience. Hopefully we have raised the profile of the need for a truly united approach to supporting the rail industry across the world.”

YRP also works closely with women in rail and was a driving force behind the recent video campaign used by NSARE in the ‘Routes into Rail’ campaign.
