The Vital Human Resources team of sub-contractors has achieved Beacon status for outstanding safety from rail operator, Tube Lines. The team worked on tunnel ring strengthening on various locations on the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines.
The Beacon Award is presented for outstanding work on project sites and also recognises that works were carried out professionally, safely and without incident, embracing a pro-active safety culture.
The Beacon Site Scheme was introduced to ensure all work at its project sites and maintenance depots is undertaken safely and considerately. It is based around the Considerate Constructors Scheme but demands even higher standards and has additional requirements because of the potentially hazardous rail environment.
Eddie Stewart, Lead Project Manager said: ‘It’s fantastic for the team to be presented with this award as they have come full circle on this project in terms of safety. I took over this project late last year and our safety performance was second to none, therefore over the last few months and with the guidance and support from the HSE team we managed to achieve the requirements for Beacon status.
‘We are all committed to safety as our number one priority and with the on-going vigilance and safety culture within our team and department we’ll maintain the level of excellence that has taken the team to this point, well done to all involved, with a special thanks to Vital Human Resources who have been proactive with our safety processes throughout the project life cycle’.
Mike Power, Director at Vital Human Resources, said: “I am very proud to receive this award on behalf of VHRL, but all credit must go to the hole drilling gangs for their professionalism, productivity and exemplary attitude towards health and safety.”
