As official sponsor of the Signaller of the Year category at this year’s Railstaff Awards, Morson was present to proudly announce its winner – Network Rail’s Phil Graham – at the glittering event in Birmingham.
Over 800 guests attended the 1920s themed event, celebrating the hard work of all those working across the Rail industry.
Morson announced its sponsorship of the category in June 2012. In a division that has been experiencing a notable skills shortage, Morson was eager to raise the profile of the discipline, and encourage those new to the industry to specialise in a skill that is much sought after in projects across the UK.
Morson’s London Director, Russell Otter, was on hand to present the award to winner, Phil Graham. Phil Graham works for Network Rail, which runs the railway infrastructure including track, signalling, bridges and tunnels. Friends and colleagues nominated the York railwayman for having run voluntary evening classes for 25 years to teach the principles of railway signalling and the related rules and regulations.
Also in the running for an award was Morson employee, Dan Winchcombe. Dan was announced as a finalist for the Recruiter of the Year category, and although he didn’t collect an award this time, was supported by Morson’s Rail team on the night.
Dan, who works at Morson’s Woking branch, is involved with the account management and recruitment for major rail companies such as Network Rail and Invensys. His commitment to his role has led to an exceptional recruitment fill rate of more than 90%; his colleagues credit this to his interaction and support of candidates throughout the entire recruitment process.
