Wildcat Base Maintenance and Forward Support
Working in partnership with Leonardo Helicopters, Morson Technical Services are proud to have recruited, employed and implemented a highly qualified Wildcat Base maintenance and Forward Support team. Our team forms part of the Leonardo Helicopters, WIST (Wildcat Integrated Support and Training) Programme which supports the UK MOD Wildcat Helicopter Fleet. The team based at RNAS Yeovilton provide technical and non-technical support activities including on-aircraft and off-aircraft work.
Wildcat Contractor Maintenance (WCM)
The Wildcat Contractor Maintenance activity is another RNAS Yeovilton based activity that Morson Technical Services are very pleased to be part of. We provide a range of suitably qualified personnel to work with our client, Leonardo Helicopters within the forward maintenance environment.
Wildcat Training Centre (WTC)
Morson was selected by Leonardo Helicopters in 2012 to provide a training team responsible for delivery of helicopter training to the British Army and Royal Navy aircrew and ground crew.
The team operates from the state-of-the-art Wildcat Training Centre at RNAS Yeovilton which is the centre of the training service delivered under the Leonardo Helicopters WIST contract. It is fully equipped and networked to provide aircrew and maintainer training using a wide range of Synthetic Training Equipment; including two Full Mission Simulators, a Flight Training Device and a Cockpit Procedures Trainer.
The Morson instructional team of aircrew simulator instructors and aircraft technical instructors supports Leonardo Helicopters under the WIST contract to deliver over sixty different training courses for ab-initio Army aircrew, ground crew and maintainers. The Morson team also includes the course planner, equipment manager and administrative support.
The Training Centre is also responsible for ensuring both Army and Naval front line Wildcat crews maintain their annual flying and operational currency as well as continuation training requirements.
Shaun Powell – ‘Trainee Teacher of the Year’ award
As a Ground Technical Instructor at the Leonardo Wildcat Training Centre (WTC), I am part of a team of eleven instructors who teach all engineering aspects of the MoD’s new Wildcat Helicopter.
Specialising in the Avionics trade, I teach the latest technological upgrades that are incorporated in the Wildcat. These include the new digital Cockpit Display System, uprated navigational sensors and Integrated Tactical and Weapon systems.
Previously serving as a member of the Royal Navy for 24 years, I have worked on several aircraft types, but the Wildcat was by far the most interesting and challenging. It did however, provide me with the relevant knowledge and experience to teach the Army, Navy and MoD personnel that undertake WTC courses.
Having never ‘formally’ taught before, I decided undertake a teaching course. This involved 2 years of night school at Yeovil College University Centre and also included regular observations of my lessons in the WTC. I was awarded the Diploma in Education and Training (Level 5) in October 2016, which I believe has helped my understanding of the philosophy of teaching, and the different techniques required to inspire students. In addition, I was also awarded Yeovil University Centre ‘Trainee Teacher of the Year’ award which was very unexpected.
