Morson International has entered into partnership with the London Development Agency (LDA), Transport for London (TfL) and Set Solutions to support the ‘Opportunities for Londoners' initiative. This initiative aims to train people for work in the Rail industry. Former LDA board member Dame Sally Powell was among those who attended the open day at South Kensington on Monday, 30 March.
Rail is one of Morson's largest and most diverse divisions. In addition to recruiting blue collar, white collar, temporary and perm workers, Morson Rail also offers rail training (including the PTS qualification) and Welding services. Our extensive rail experience and strong London presence made us the perfect choice for this regional scheme.
The initiative will see 25 participants training with Set Solutions before becoming Morson International employees, contracted to work for major companies such as London Underground and Network Rail on a starting salary of £26,000 p.a.
20 participants have been taken on by Morson's Head of Safety Critical Operations, John Zayya, who is heading this project along with Morson Rail Director, Brian Gray. These 20 participants will be trained as protection masters - a vocational opportunity they would not previously have been exposed to. It is estimated that a further 25 participants could enjoy the training and employment benefits Set solutions and Morson can offer.
London Employer Accord account director, Graham Edgar said: "This is a fantastic example of private and public sector organisations working together to achieve great things - employees for an organisation and jobs for Londoners."
The ‘Opportunities for Londoners' initiative is a beacon during this time of economic uncertainty and spiralling unemployment. Morson International is proud to be a part of it.
