Award for Health and Safety
12 April 2011
Track Team
A London Support Services track team working for Tube Lines at Goodge Street station have been recognized for their commitment to health & safety with the award of a prestigious Beacon Status by the client.
The team, led by Site Person in Charge Shane Cant, implemented the use of hand arm vibration (HAV) meters and trialed different concrete breakers on site to reduce hand arm vibration. The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) visited the site in January to see these new initiatives in action and were impressed.
The Beacon scheme at Tube Lines is based on the Considerate Constructors Scheme but demands even higher standards and has additional requirements because of the potentially hazardous rail environment.
The scheme was introduced in 2006 by Tube Lines to help ensure that all work at its project sites and maintenance depots is undertaken safely and considerately.
Director of Projects Geoff Virrels and Delivery Manager for Track Nasser Al-Tel presented the team with the award and were very impressed with their initiative and general attitude to safety on site.
